At Microfiber Wholesale, we have always focused on our relationship with our customers and providing high quality cleaning products even before we were known as Microfiber Wholesale. For nearly 75 years, we’ve been able to carve out a niche market among small business owners who recognize that using higher quality cleaning supplies can make cleaning easier and cost less in the long run.

Our company was founded in 1946 when my grandfather, Landon Haney, moved from Nashville to Los Angeles after returning from World War II. He began distributing mops, rags, brooms and brushes to cleaning supply and hardware stores. He quickly found a niche selling cleaning products to industrial laundries, which rent out textiles to businesses and wash them for their customers.

We got into microfiber in the early 2000s. My dad is a cleaning freak and I’m about to be one too. I’m not sure how to describe how we’ve felt about microfiber since the beginning, but it’s a mixture of wonder and love. There’s nothing like showing it to someone who’s never seen it. I remember my first demonstration of a microfiber flat mop. This was with a group of salespeople for one of our laundry customers. We’re in the break room at their factory early in the morning. The floor had been mopped with a regular cotton mop that morning. I made a wild prediction that a few passes with a microfiber mop would result in a dirty mop pad. They insisted I was wrong and the floor was clean. So, I wiped and showed them the dirty mat. They became instant converts, and my dad and I continued to preach the benefits of microfiber to anyone who would listen.

I discovered a niche market where customers care about quality: cleaning companies. Most residential and commercial cleaning companies are small enough that even if the owners don’t work outside every day, they’ll keep in touch with those who are there. So if they provide their employees with poor quality cleaning supplies, they will hear about it. Cleaning business owners also understand that if they can use a product for longer, it will be cheaper in the long run because it won’t have to be replaced as often. Cleaning business owners are to me what independent laundry owner/operators were to my grandfather and father.

I found a way to run an e-commerce business that fits with our roots as a third generation family business. Since my dad passed away in 2011, we hit a turning point where we re-discovered who we are as a business, and we’ve grown. When we were little, I remember trying to act like a big shot. We’re still small and I’m comfortable in my company’s skin. A dozen people work here now, including my sister Bryce. If my father and grandfather were alive to see this company now, I know they would be proud (and surprised, especially when it hired my sister). They take pride not in the numbers, because honestly, that never mattered to them, but in the way we do business. I’m also proud of it.
